Its human nature for us to want to fix things. Relationships, physical features, structures, situations but no matter how hard we try we will never be able to completely fix anything in our lives. We obsess and have this compulsive tendency to be perfect. We look at ourselves or other people and immediately pick out what is wrong or what needs fixed. However what we think needs fixed or looks messed up isn't always so. We strive for perfection in our personal lives and our professional lives and when someone messes up we get this holier than thou mentality acting like we are perfect and never make mistakes.
No matter how perfect we think we may be there is a three letter word that ties us all together and brings us all back down to the same level. The word is sin, this is the missing piece that ties us all together. See without sin we would have no need for a savior, we would have no need for Jesus. Yes our sins are forgiven through what Christ did on the cross but that doesn’t mean we are perfect. It means we are restored. If we are perfect we have no need for grace and we have no need for the cross. We must not strive for the world’s view of perfection but Gods view of perfection.
The perfect one God created Adam and Eve to be the seeds of perfection... but that didn't last long did it? One apple made the difference between perfection and sin. We may try and justify our sin or compare it to other people's sin. But sin is sin no matter how much we have or what we have done. In the Fathers eyes we have sinned and are all on the same level. With this sin however comes hope. If we all have sin then we all need to pay for it. We have two options, we can choose to pay for it ourselves. (Not recommended) or we can let Jesus pay for it and restore us. No I’m not talking the Hispanic tradesman from Central America, it’s a common mistake. I’m talking about the Son of God. The one God sent to pay for our sin so that we wouldn't have to.
“We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood. This sacrifice shows that God was being fair when he held back and did not punish those who sinned in times past, for he was looking ahead and including them in what he would do in this present time. God did this to demonstrate his righteousness, for he himself is fair and just, and he makes sinners right in his sight when they believe in Jesus.”
Romans 3:22-26 NLT
So how do we let him pay for it? It’s actually pretty easy, there’s no 12 step plan, no chant we have to do. We just have to confess our sin from our mouth to God and ask for forgiveness. Romans 10: 9-10 says it this way:
“If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.”
Romans 10: 9-10
Prayer:
Jesus thank you for loving me, Jesus thank you for saving me. I surrender my life to you. Purify my heart to the ways of your Spirit. Release any unholy thing that is preventing me from seeing you rightly. Thank you for making me whole and new through Christ. It’s in your holy and precious name I pray. Amen.
